Stephen Sulich, Pianist

Stephen Sulich returns to Anchorage, Alaska in the 2007-2008 season to conduct his seventeenth production with Anchorage Opera - Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail. This past season in Anchorage he conducted Gounod's Roméo et Juliette on the main stage and Dominick Argento's Miss Havisham's Wedding Night as part of Anchorage Opera's Second Stage Series. He has served as guest recitalist, conductor and instructor for the Young Artist Vocal Program at the Pine Mountain Music Festival in Michigan for the past five years. Maestro Sulich boasts a broad repertoire of almost fifty operas and has conducted for more than twenty opera companies across the United States including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, and Texas Opera Theater. Recent recordings include: a collaboration with soprano Lucy Thrasher on a CD of Cabaret Songs by classical composers, released this past August (2007) on the Barking Dog Records label, and several piano solos for the soundtrack of STILL(e), a film by Susan Schwarzwald/First Gaze Films.

Anastasia Jamieson, Soprano

Anastasia Jamieson has an extensive vocal repertoire, which includes opera, operetta, oratorio, concert works and musical theatre. She has sung major operatic roles and concretized in several American cities, including Detroit, Denver, Pittsburgh, Boston, Las Vegas and Anchorage, performing roles as Susanna and Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Adele and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Micaela in Carmen, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Gilda in Rigoletto, Serpina in La Serva Padrona, Iris in Semele and the title role in Suor Angelica. This past fall, she sang the role of Mimi in La Boheme for Opera Las Vegas. Her concert repertoire includes Brahm’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, C Minor Mass and Exultate Jubilate, Handel’s Messiah, Faure’s Requiem and Orff’s Carmina Burana. Ms. Jamieson is well known as a performer of J S Bach, and has appeared as a soloist in his Magnificat, Christmas Oratorio, St. Matthew Passion, St. John Passion and numerous cantatas. A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ms. Jamieson received her vocal training at the renowned University of Michigan School of Music. She resides in Anchorage, Alaska with her husband and two children and is currently a member of the voice faculty at the University of Alaska, Anchorage.

Elena Zabarskaya, Soprano

Elena graduated from the choral and conducting faculty of the Novosibirsk State Conservatory of Music. She has sung leading roles in various opera projects of the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic Society: Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Handel’s Acis and Galatea.

Elena conducts a children’s choir and has a career as a solo vocalist.

She is a frequent visitor to Alaska and took part in many RACS concerts in the past years, as a singer from the Sharomov Vocal Ensemble.
